Baptism | 25 October 1801 | He was baptised on 25 October 1801 in Oddington, GloucestershireG. The parents are named as Thomas and Mary. No other child has been found with these parents. There is a Thomas WEST who has children in Adlestrop with his wife Sarah before and after James' birth. Possibly the mother's name is wrong. Possibly James was illegitimate. Possibly there are two Thomas WESTs. The information on the 'other' Thomas is retained on the database, but is not linked as James' father as no proof has been found. Further indications that the mother's name might be incorrect are that the available record is an copy from the original register made by the curate. The previous baptism had a mother called Mary, so a moment's inattention when copying might have resulted in him repeating the name by mistake. |
