The majority of my ancestors have been based in the area surrounding Sheffield in South Yorkshire, and Chesterfield in Derbyshire, for hundreds of years.
Many of my forebears were coal miners. Others worked on the land. Only one (a distant cousin) rose above his working-class origins to become a man of some substance.
This is not a family who made a great impact on history. There is no known link to any famous person.
Who do I think I am? I suppose that I'm one of millions of ordinary people who think that their family is important - just because it is THEIR family.
I look on my research as a labour of love. Others might call it an obsession. It's a trail that will never end.....
