Note | about 1980 | She became ill about 1980 at Kohimarama in Auckland, New ZealandG, Unfortunately Dorothy had always had ear problems and as a very elderly person she became quite deaf. Nearing 100 years old she suffered from tinnitus and blamed the next-door neighbour for keeping on playing a record. The couple had to put up with her saying that the previous owner had left the record behind! Luckily she had compassionate neighbours whom she could phone to ask for any help e.g. shopping at the local dairy, hanging out and getting in her washing etc. They were too kind to object but it became a burden. |
Note | 1995 | She became ill in 1995 at Kohimarama in Auckland, New ZealandG, At age 100, her neighbours found her in the garden unconscious. She was taken to hospital where it was found that she had a kidney infection, which required attention. When she was ready to be discharged, she was persuaded to enter a retirement home to recuperate. She demanded many times to be taken home but it was not to be. The rest home caregivers thought very highly of her and she was always immaculately groomed. |
