Last Saturday, about noon, the Assizes ended for this County, when John Shaw, William Lee, William Cupitt, and Edward Johnson, convicted of breaking out of the County Gaol, and being found at large after having been ordered for Transportation at the last Assizes, received sentence of Death; the two latter were reprieved before the Judges left town, but Shaw and Lee were left for Execution, which is fixed for 2nd August.-- Samuel Jackson was tried for the same Offence as the above, but was acquitted, it is said thro' a Mistake of the Jury; he was, however, ordered to be sent to the Coast of Africa, on his former sentence.-- Thomas Jackson for assisting the prisoners in breaking out of the Gaol, was ordered to work upon the Thames for two Years; Elizabeth Lindley and Ann Cupitt, charged with the like Offence, were acquitted; and Mary Milward was admitted in Evidence for the Crown.
